Danielle Carmichael
Danielle Carmichael began her career in art at about age 3 in her father’s shirt with the sleeves rolled to the shoulders, a pint sized easel, and the glory that is finger paints. And the rest, as they say, is history! While growing up in Brownwood she tried her hand at and learned about as many different art forms as she could get her hands on. Earning herself a Best in Show prize in the student division of Brownwood’s Stars of Texas Art Show.
She went on to study Graphic Design at Texas Christian University and earned a Student Addy Award from the American Advertising Federation of Fort Worth. All the while, still learning new art forms, which became some of her favorites, including screen printing, photography, artist books, painting, and especially pencil drawing. She did three years worth of widely circulated graphics for the Texas Pecan Board while still in school. Upon graduation she moved to Llano and set up her own graphics and fine arts studio Thou Art with her mother Connie Bishop.
In the following years she has continued to do the things that she loves and she has begun to combine and crossover different media. She has done numerous commissioned pieces for local organizations including the Llano Junior Women’s Culture Club and the Llano Historical Museum. She has also taken up one-of-a-kind clothing and costume design, and has created award wining pieces for local festivals and events for the last three years.
“ I love art, in all its forms and asking me to stick to one or choose a favorite is like asking a painter to choose their favorite color… doesn’t work! As soon as I feel like I have a good handle on one form I want to pick up another because my mind can’t help but imagine what I could do with it in combination with something I already know or on its own. I still work in pure media a good deal, but I do love the absolutely endless possibilities of multi media. And the clothing is the same thing it’s just another medium… only a little more fun in some ways because you get to wear it! ”
She continues to do graphics work, and artwork on commission, along with the art she does for herself out of her Llano based studio.
