Debbie Geistweidt
Born in the flat, brush country of South Texas, Debbie’s life has always revolved around her creative energies and observing nature. She spent her early years in Bruni, some fifty miles from her birthplace of Laredo, and there discovered the value of color in the almost barren, brush country of South Texas. Her father was an oil field worker and the family moved from Bruni to Edinburg in the Rio Grande Valley with its lush gardens, orchards and tropical climate. The family eventually settled in El Campo where her German immigrant grandfather had purchased a farm in the early 1900’s.
Debbie's artistic talents developed while in high school and college into a deep love and understanding of fabric and thread. After working in various public and private jobs, Debbie retired to the family ranch in Mason County, Texas with her fourth generation rancher husband, John.
Her stitched portraits and landscapes now hang in private collections in Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Mason. In Mason, she won the People’s Choice Award at the Hill Country Fine Arts Association Art Gala in 2010. She exhibited 6 pieces in the Softer Side of Art fiber art invitational show at the the Kerr Arts and Cultural Center in Kerrville during July, 2010.
She is a member of San Antonio Fiber Artists, Studio Art Quilters Association, Quilting Arts Magazine and her most cherished affiliation, Monday Night Quilting Group in Mason.
